General eligibility criteria for all nominations
In addition to the individual eligibility criteria below, the following mandatory eligibility criteria must be met for the nomination to be deemed eligible for the 2026 Multicultural Community Medals:
- All required fields must be completed
- All required documentation must be provided
- Nominees must be permanent residents or citizens of Australia
- Nominees must be a resident of New South Wales or an organisation based in New South Wales
- Nominee’s contribution must have had an impact on the NSW community
- Nominees must not be a current Multicultural NSW employee (except for the Interpreters and Translators Medal) or Advisory Board member or member of the judging panel
- Entrants must declare any and all use of artificial intelligence (AI) used in producing the works entered and preparing their submission. This includes but is not limited to the use of generative AI technology to create text, artwork, photography, data visualisation, and other graphics.

Top-
This award recognises an individual’s contribution and achievement in facilitating and promoting social cohesion, understanding and acceptance between members of different cultural or faith communities in NSW.
This award recognises multicultural champions including youth, volunteers, professionals, and human rights advocates.
Nominee must be an individual.

This award recognises an individual’s commitment to community service within a migrant community. The contribution will have had a significant and lasting impact on the social or cultural wellbeing of the community that spans over 30 years.
This award recognises volunteers, professionals, media professionals and journalists, and those who have devoted their lifetime to champion multiculturalism in the community.
Nominee must be an individual who has rendered community service within a migrant community for 30 years or more.

This award recognises the achievements of an individual, group or organisation whose work has promoted cultural understanding, and artistic endeavours within or between communities of different cultural and/or linguistic backgrounds.
Nominee must be an individual, group or art organisation.
Nominee must have used arts and/or culture in their work or volunteer capacity.

This award recognises the achievements of an outstanding and innovative teacher who instils knowledge and a lifelong love of language and culture in students.
Nominee must be a past or current professional community language teacher.

This award recognises the achievements of an interpreter or translator for the role they play in ensuring that the community of NSW has access to essential information and services.
Nominee must be an individual who is an interpreter or translator by profession.

This award recognises an individual or organisation that has developed a program or community initiative in New South Wales that improves the health of culturally diverse communities.
The initiative may support physical or mental health, promote early intervention or prevention, strengthen health literacy, or reduce barriers to accessing health services. The program must demonstrate culturally responsive practices and measurable outcomes that contribute to long-term positive health impacts for multicultural communities.
The contribution may include program delivery, advocacy, or health literacy initiatives, but not research-only projects.
Nominees can be individuals, community organisations, or not-for-profit organisations who work with people from culturally diverse communities.
Individual NSW Government and NSW Health employees, and NSW Local Health Districts are not eligible to be nominated on their own. However, joint nominations from individuals or community organisations, in partnership with a local health district or multicultural health professional in the delivery of multicultural health initiatives, will be eligible.
The initiative must be based in New South Wales and serve multicultural communities in NSW.

This award recognises the outstanding achievements of a not for profit who has promoted diversity and inclusion in their programming.
Nominee must be a not for profit.

This award recognises an individual or organisation who has developed a program or community initiative to support disadvantaged school-aged children from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including refugee or refugee-like backgrounds.
Open to organisations and individuals.

This award recognises the contribution of an individual who has significantly benefited the economic, social and cultural wellbeing and unity of a regional community.
Nominee must be an individual and live in a regional area. For this award, ‘regional’ is defined as being outside the greater metropolitan area of Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong.

This award recognises the achievements of an individual or sporting code who has promoted cultural understanding and sporting endeavours within or between communities of different cultural and/or linguistic backgrounds.
Nominee must be an individual or a sporting code.

This award recognises excellence in journalism for multicultural media (text, audio, audio-visual).
Open to all multicultural media* including student journalists.
Work must have been published or broadcast in NSW or had an impact on the NSW community.
All entries must have been published or broadcast between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025.
Media content nominated under the previous 2025 Multicultural Community Medals is not eligible.

This award recognises outstanding contribution of a multicultural media publication in informing and engaging its audience.
Open to all multicultural media.*
Work must have been published or broadcast in NSW or had an impact on the NSW community.
All entries must have been published or broadcast between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025.
Media content nominated under the previous 2025 Multicultural Community Medals is not eligible.

* Multicultural media is defined as any media outlet or organisation publishing in a language other than English or catering to specific multicultural communities. Submissions to multicultural media only categories will only be accepted from public broadcasters like ABC and SBS if the submission is in a language other than English.
Submissions for multicultural media categories must either be submitted in a language other than English, or demonstrate the submission caters to a specific multicultural community. Submissions in language must be accompanied by an English translation. All nomination questions should be answered in English. -
This award recognises excellence in delivering a multicultural campaign.
Open to public relations, advertising, and digital agencies, not for profits and volunteer groups and internal marketing teams in organisations.
Joint entries are allowed.
The campaign must have included NSW community in the target audience.
The campaign must have been conducted between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2025. Marketing campaigns nominated under the previous 2025 Multicultural Community Medals are not eligible.

The Multicultural Honour Roll is a special recognition given to someone who has passed away. It honours the important work they did to help build a more inclusive, strong and peaceful community for everyone.
Their name and achievements are remembered in a permanent public record, so their contribution to the people of New South Wales is remembered even after their death.
Nominee must be an individual who has passed away at the time nominations close.
