What a joy it was to celebrate with the community on 13 October in tribute to Diwali – the Festival of Lights.
It’s always a highlight for me to join community members, faith leaders, and dignitaries to acknowledge this special time in the year for many in our Hindu, Sikh, Jain and some Buddhist communities. These communities continue to contribute immensely to NSW, where their positive impact across multiple areas of life enriches all of us.
Diwali, or Deepavali, signifies the power of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. I can’t think of a more relevant message for our multicultural society right now. It’s so important to come together in joy and unity and work together to overcome darkness and division.
It was also a pleasure to head out to Wagga Wagga this past weekend for the Fusion Botanical Multicultural Festival. Now in its 14th year, Fusion is one of the largest multicultural festivals in New South Wales, attracting thousands of people from across the Riverina region. It’s a fantastic opportunity for local and regional communities to connect with new arrivals and celebrate cultural diversity. You can read more below about other festivals we’ve attended or supported this month.
Until next month, take care. And I wish a meaningful Diwali to everyone celebrating.
