Multicultural champions leading by example

This Harmony Week (21–27 March), the NSW Government is encouraging everyone to follow the example of 16 extraordinary people who have helped make NSW the multicultural success it is today.

Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure presented awards to 16 people and organisations at an awards ceremony earlier this month, recognising their contributions toward making NSW a better place.

“We have the world’s most successful multicultural society because of people like these. Each of them, among many other outstanding individuals and organisations, has been a champion of this year’s Harmony Week theme Everyone Belongs,” Mr Coure said.

“That is especially the case for those we celebrated posthumously for their contributions, such as Eddie Jaku OAM.

“I personally want to acknowledge these outstanding individuals and organisations again for their contributions and selflessness in putting the needs of others above their own.”

Mr Coure said Harmony Week celebrations coincided with a range of cultural events held as part of Multicultural March.

“For those wanting to get out and about, there’s a great mix of festivals and events happening this month,” Mr Coure said.
