Sath arrived in Sydney on 17 February 1975 to study English. His family joined him in Australia just before the Khmer Rouge took power. He spent a considerable amount of his time advocating for and helping resettle Cambodian refugees and the establishment of the Cambodian community. He was President of the Khmer Community of NSW Incorporated and helped secure land lease from the NSW government for Wat Khemmarangsaram and the Cambodian Cultural Centre in Bonnyrigg.
