
John A Constatine OAM was born in Limassol, Cyprus on 3 January 1946 and migrated to Australia in January 1955. He arrived in Sydney as a Greek-speaking 9-year-old, who didn’t know a word of English. Growing up, he played representative soccer for Western Districts, Apia, Pan Hellenic and Granville United. John excelled in school and was awarded a Commonwealth scholarship to study a Bachelor of Law at the University of Sydney. John established a successful legal practice Constantine & Co, which continues to date. He was the president of the Sydney Olympic Football Cub for a number of years and was later elected president of the NSW Soccer Federation and later still, elected president of the Australian Soccer Federation. He served as president of the Cyprus Community of NSW twice. He was appointed as a Director of the GIO and Trustee of the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust. He was also involved in staging the 1993 World Youth Championships. One of his greatest achievements was securing funding from the NSW Government for the construction of the NSW Soccer Federation’s Headquarters at Valentine Park in Glenwood.
