George Vardas
George is Secretary of the Australian Hellenic Council (NSW) and has been actively involved in the Greek Australian community for more than three decades.
He has a legal background and is an accredited mediator, with an interest in cultural heritage and conservation.
He is also co-Vice President of the Australian Parthenon Association and has been heavily involved in the international campaign for the return of the Elgin collection of Parthenon Sculptures from the British Museum to Athens.
He has written widely for Greek language news both locally and internationally, as both a freelance feature writer for the Greek Herald and as Arts and Culture Editor for the Greek City Times.
George is a long-standing member of the Kytherian Association of Australia and a former president and director of the Association.
He has played a key role advising on multicultural policy and other matters affecting the Greek Australian, Cypriot and wider community.
George has held previous roles as both a member and the Inaugural Chairman of Georges River Council Multicultural Reference Group.
He currently serves as Community Representative on the Georges River Local Planning Panel.
