Welcome to the June edition of Multicultural Link.

This week is Refugee Week 2023. It’s a time to celebrate and reflect on the significant contribution that refugees have made to Australian society over many decades.

Working together to help fast-track the settlement journey of our newest Aussies will no doubt help to build a stronger, more vibrant and connected future for everyone in Australia.

We often say in our office, that every week is refugee week at Multicultural NSW. The recently launched NSW Settlement Strategy is the first of its kind in Australia, bringing together NSW Government and other agencies to effectively support people from refugee and refugee-like backgrounds.

One of the many ways the NSW government supports multicultural communities from refugee and other backgrounds is through our Grants Programs. I’m thrilled to share that the Stronger Together Project Grants program is now open.

Lived experience is invaluable when it comes to informing our policy work and I’m proud that we’re able to share the story of Thida Yang. A refugee from Cambodia, Thida is a much loved and respected Senior Community Relations Advisor at Multicultural NSW.

Finally, our annual Listening Tour starts this month. Our community engagement team will be travelling across NSW to hear from you. If you’d like to take part, you can register your interest to join a listening tour session.
