Multicultural NSW wishes everyone a Happy Diwali!
Diwali, or Deepavali, is the most widely celebrated festival in India and many South Asian countries. It is celebrated by millions of Hindus, Sikhs, and Jains around the world, including by communities here in New South Wales.
‘Diwali’ means ‘row of lamps’. It symbolises the victory of light over darkness. It is celebrated by lighting small oil lamps called ‘diyas’, symbolising the lifting of spiritual darkness and the renewal of life. It is a time to pray for health, knowledge and peace.
New South Wales is home to a growing number of vibrant Diwali celebrations. Join an event near you and celebrate the Festival of Lights!
Is your council hosting Diwali events but isn’t listed? Email us with the details and we’ll add it to our page.
