This month, Multicultural NSW turns 10 – supporting communities through a once-in-a-generation pandemic, dealing with impacts of overseas events, responding to violent and divisive incidents, providing essential language services, producing Australia’s first Refugee Settlement Strategy – the team has been working tirelessly to help maintain and build social cohesion in our great state.
Just last week, I had the honour of giving an address to Humanities students from Western Sydney University and had the opportunity to reflect on the critical work our agency does.
There is still much work to be done. Our team is revitalised and eager to work with our communities and government for the betterment of NSW.
This year, we’ve offered many grants programs to drive and enhance our community cohesion. The Safe Places for Faith Communities Grants and the Stronger Together Local Council Major Festival Grants are both open for application. Find out more about these opportunities below.
In November, we embraced the spirit of light over darkness with Diwali and commemorated the up-coming Chanukah festival.
Our community engagement has ramped up this month with the completion of the first round of Regional Community Network meetings that will pave the way for the coming listening tours within our regional communities.
If you’re interested in becoming a voice for your community, I encourage you to register for the Regional Engagement Program below.
Until next month, continue to take care of yourselves and each other.
