Firstly, we need to acknowledge that many people in our NSW community continue to suffer grief and loss due to geopolitical instability across the world. Understandably, this weighs on how many of us feel, but it should also serve as a reminder how fortunate we are to live in a peaceful country like Australia and a cohesive society like New South Wales. But we can never take our social cohesion for granted. Every one of us has a role to play in safeguarding and nurturing social cohesion in our multicultural society.

As individuals, and as a collective, we should consistently reflect on our language and actions when engaging with and talking about other people.

To this end, I am pleased many of our community and faith leaders across the state, continue to shine light on hope, kindness and compassion.

We too at Multicultural NSW are committed to this cause. A current priority is delivering our COMPACT (Community Partnership Action) program, designed to combat racism and hate. Our COMPACT Program continues to grow, supporting a state-wide network of partner organisations who are committed to safeguarding social cohesion against racism, hate and extremism. We are currently inviting proposals for COMPACT Partnership Projects and you have until next week to apply.

Importantly, the NSW Government and the Government of South Australia will hold a Social Media Summit in October bringing together government and a diverse group of experts and stakeholders to discuss the impacts of social media. Find out how to register your interest below.

Following this, the Strengthening Social Cohesion Conference will bring together community, industry, and government to discuss social cohesion and democratic resilience.

Until next month, take care of yourselves and each other.

CEO, Multicultural NSW
