Nautanki Theatre

Nautanki Theatre Company is a Western Sydney based organisation working towards cultural development, community engagement, education and training through live performing arts. Beginning their journey from the grassroots community level to evolve as an Independent Theatre Company practicing cross-cultural story telling in partnership with Riverside Theatre since 2012.

This is their story.

In last 6 years, Nautanki Company has successfully presented five live theatre performances and kick started the annual South Asian Theatre Festival in 2016. The festival involves more than 200 actors, performers, crew and support staff. With more than 5000 audience attendees over the last 2 years.

The aim is to produce creative opportunity with a true representation of contemporary Australia and provide equal access to everyone.

Our objective is to work with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities, refugee or migrant people facilitating social inclusion, creating a voice to vanguard their cultural identity.

Productions of Nautanki Theatre have traveled interstate as well as internationally. With its extensive research and experience presently Nautanki Theatre is producing its artistic creations in Parramatta city. The company is creating a new trend and audience in Western Sydney and motivating various local diasporas to join the Independent Theatre Movement of which this company has been one of the pioneers.

The Nautanki Theatre company operates with the assistance of just 5 volunteer staff members to run the South Asian Theatre Festival each year amongst other productions.

The main aim of the festival is to promote a cross-cultural dialogue between the various South Asian community theatre groups through drama.

These plays presented by various South Asian theatre groups have been performing plays for many years within their own community space.

The third South Asian Theatre Festival will run again this year on the 15th & 16th November 2018 at Riverside Theatre, Parramatta. Everyone is invited.
