Paul Franze

Paul Franze is a former NRL player who now manages the NRL’s In League in Harmony Program, supported by Multicultural NSW. This is his story.

Paul grew up with a strong Italian heritage in Newcastle before a five year career in the NRL. He played with Penrith Panthers, Cronulla Sharks and Newcastle Knights. Paul now uses rugby league as the vehicle to talk to youth, and empowers them to be the best version of themselves.

Paul’s League career also gave him the ability to travel, playing in England and France for 5 years. This time helped him shape his views on a lot of things in life, and opened his eyes up to how blessed we are to live in Australia.

Paul recognises that many of the kids in the In League in Harmony program have gone through hardship in their own country, now they've come here to adopt Australia as their own. He uses his own family’s experience who came to Australia for a better way of life, and encourages the kids to make the most of their opportunities.

"We don't know what their background or baggage is but we tell them to make every post a winner. We want to make sure the message is clear, accurate and received. We share that message whether we're at an intensive English centre, at a high school or at a juvenile justice centre."

"We live in a multicultural world, especially Sydney, and all our families came here for a better life. It's the perfect opportunity to not waste."
